Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, in partnership with Portishead Cruising Club, over the weekends of 15/16 June 2024 and 29/30 June 2024, hosted the 2024 Shanghai Cup – Bristol Channel IRC Championships & Nimrod Cup.

The Shanghai Cup, as the Bristol Channel IRC Championships, uses IRC ratings and consisted of racing over the two weekends, and the Nimrod Cup uses NHC ratings and consisted of a series of races on the second weekend only in Cardiff.

After a number of hotly contested races over the two weekends, Ctrl-J from PCC have managed to retain the Shanghai Cup for another year, with Jaloha from PHYC/NYC coming 2nd, Hero from PCC coming 3rd with Silverback and Joyride from CBYC chasing their heels in 4th & 5th.

In the Nimrod Cup, 1st and 2nd place was only decided with a count-back, as they were on equal points, with Wave Train taking 1st place, and Mochyn Du taking 2nd place, followed by Glad Rags brining up 3rd place.

You can read up on the two weekends of racing on Sail World where PCC have posted event reports:

Both weekends saw some great social activities, with the BBQ, Steak Night and 80s vs 90s Live Music on the Saturday in Cardiff being a highlight of the event
